TIMING

The first GUI version is being released in stages beginning 6 June 2002. The software itself is ready for delivery now (e.g. for new Bulk or Academic Site License orders). Shrinkwrap packaging will take some time. In the meantime owners of previous versions can upgrade to version 2.0 online, and those who wish to order individual copies will receive 1.1.20, and can then upgrade to 2.0. At some point before the new shrinkwraps are ready, we also hope to have a direct purchase and electronic delivery method available.

SECURITY

Effective 16 July 2002, the cryptographic version of Kermit 95 can be exported to most countries. CLICK HERE for details.

PRICING AND LICENSING

The retail single-copy price of Kermit 95 1.1.20 (released in March 2000) was increased from $59.00 to $64.00 USD; this was first price increase since 1995 and it reflects increased production costs over the years, plus the addition of the C-Kermit CDROM to the basic package. The bulk and academic license prices remain the same. The GUI version of Kermit 95 will have a its own price increase, probably more substantial, to be announced June 21st. But it is a free upgrade to all registered owners of shrinkwrapped (single-license) versions, as well as to all academic and bulk-right-to-copy license holders in their first year of ownership, or whose annual maintenance is paid up according to the license.
